The Complete Guide To T-Fal Cookware - Cookware Insider (2024)

I’m a professional chef, and in this guide, I’m going to break down everything you need to know to decide if T-Fal Cookware is the right choice for you.

Beginning the search for a cookware set that fits your lifestyle and budget can be overwhelming, and there’s a lot of conflicting information online… much of it copy/pasted from reviews or written by freelancers who have never cooked a day in their life.

Our goal at Cookware Insider is to provide firsthand, unbiased, in-depth guides to the cookware you’re evaluating right now. Today’s target: T-Fal cookware.

Table of Contents

What Is T-Fal Cookware?

T-Fal cookware was started in 1956 by Marc Grégoire, the inventor of the first nonstick frying pan. Marc’s wife saw the technology being used in the removal of glass fiber molds and asked him to use the technology on their pans at home. The results changed the world of cooking forever.

T-Fal still uses this forward-thinking approach to innovation with all its products. Their most popular product by far is their affordable lines of pots and pans; ceramic, stainless steel, titanium, and of course, non-stick. They also manufacture small appliances.

Do not confuse T-Fal with Teflon, which is a common mistake. T-Fal is a brand of cookware, while Teflon is the non-stick coating brand owned by DuPont.

What Is The Best T-Fal Cookware Set?

Deciding which set is best will entirely depend on you and your needs, but you’ll have the option of choosing from four different lines.

  1. Stainless Steel
  2. Hard Anodized Titanium Nonstick
  3. Ceramic
  4. Signature Nonstick

When choosing the best cookware set for yourself, things to think about are budget, experience, health restrictions, and the types of food you frequently cook. If you find that you use frying pans ninety percent of the time, you won’t need a set with many sauce pots and stockpots.

It’s a good rule of thumb to buy the best of what your budget allows. Spending more money on a better set of cookware will pay off in the long run since you won’t have to make the same purchase again in the relatively near future.

The Best T-Fal Cookware [Reviews]

Let’s dive into real customer reviews to see what users are saying about the different types of T-Fal cookware.

1. T-Fal Stainless Steel Set

As the name says, this type of T-Fal is built entirely from stainless steel, including the handle, which is held together with rivets. It also comes with a thick layer of stainless steel on the bottom.

The lids are made of tempered glass with a handle and vent hole.

Stainless Steel Design

The stainless steel has a mirrored polished surface, giving it a sleek look. The handles are shaped for comfort and ease of use, with a hole on the end, giving you the option to hang the pan for storage.

The lids are clear so you can see the food as it cooks. This is great for saving you time because every time you lift the lid, you lose heat.

Some of the pans have the Techno Release interior, designed to keep food from sticking and makes for easy clean-up. They are also dishwasher safe and compatible with any heat source, including induction.

Stainless Steel Performance

Stainless steel is not for the faint of heart. It takes time, practice, and a little guidance to learn how to cook with stainless steel. It’s notorious for making food stick and can be frustrating if you haven’t been clued in on the do’s and don’t of using it. A more experienced cook will have an easier time navigating these challenges.

If this doesn’t intimidate you and you’re looking to up your skill level, stainless steel cookware is a welcome guest in your cookware arsenal.

Stainless steel is tough and will last for a long time. You can use any sort of utensils (metal, wood, silicon, etc.) while cooking. You cannot do this with nonstick pans. This also means they are easy to clean up. Just use a metal scrubby, throw it in the dishwasher, and you’re done.

The all-metal design means it stands up to high heat, so it’s excellent for searing and then going into the oven, so long as the oven isn’t above 500 degrees. Beware of the handles though; they will get hot.

When To Choose A Stainless Steel T-Fal Set

Buy stainless steel when you are looking for something more durable and long-lasting. While these aren’t the greatest stainless steel cookware sets, they are a great jumping-off point, so when you spend a lot of money on an expensive set, you’ll be very experienced with using them. Think of it in terms of learning guitar. You don’t go out and buy the most expensive guitar in the store; you buy a beginner’s piece and invest more when you get better.

Stainless steel is healthier than some other options. Nonstick can’t handle high heat without giving off harmful chemicals. Other materials, like pure copper and aluminum, will react to acidic foods by pulling a metallic taste out of the pan and put it into whatever food you are cooking.

If you are looking for a cookware set that is durable, good-looking, healthy, budget-friendly, and versatile, then go with stainless steel.

I have owned a lot of cookware and did a lot of research before purchasing this product. If you do not care about using your pots and pans in the oven, this is the best non stick cookware you are going to find under the $700 price point and maybe even at all. This is NOT normal T-Fal cookware, the coating is COMPLETELY different and much more hard. I have owned a few T-Fal Ultimate products for over 7 years and have used metal on them many times, they still look and act brand new. If you are looking for a premiere set of cookware that isn’t for oven cooking, look no further.

Ok, so the reviews were a bit mixed, so I waited to do the review until I had lived with these for a while. I’ve had these pans for 6 months now… BUY THEM. They are nice heavy weight pans, and cook evenly. Clean up is easy. I have a gas cook top, so it may be some of the negative reviews are from electric cooktops. Since they are heavy they seem to heat up evenly, and don’t panic over them not being coated for non-stick. If you do burn anything in them, boil water and it comes out. If you but just oil….scrub with an abrasive cleaner. They look impressive, even my step son when he came over for dinner even noted they were nice. Update… I’ve had these pans a few years now… they still look wonderful and I love them.

2. T-Fal Hard Anodized Titanium Nonstick Set

The Titanium set is built from hard-anodized aluminum, which is scratch-resistant and durable. The handles are made from silicone and riveted to the pan. The Thermo Spot Indicator in the center of the pan will tell you when the pan has reached the correct temperature to begin cooking. The lids are tempered glass with a vent hole and silicone handle.

Titanium Design

The set has the classic look of all cookware sets. The inside and outside are black, and while the bottom of the cookware looks textured, it’s smooth to the touch. The rivets and the attaching brace are polished aluminum. The handles and lids are silicon and also black.

There’s an anti-warp base, so if you forget about the pan on the heat for too long, it won’t change its shape as it’s cooling down or if it’s cooled down too quickly.

Titanium Performance

People rave about these sets. The nonstick works well and lasts a long time, but metal utensils still are not recommended. Also, do not use high heat. It’s best to use low to medium-high heat while using this cookware, but they are oven safe up to 400 degrees.

Since the handles are made from silicone, there is no heat transfer while cooking, same with the lid, but be careful while lifting the lids that your knuckles don’t touch the tempered glass as it will still be hot.

Many people report the Thermo Spot Indicator that tells you when the pan is hot doesn’t really work. I have owned one of these pans, and this was my experience as well. All the other benefits outweighed this issue, so it didn’t bother me very much.

When To Choose Hard Anodized Titanium T-Fal Set

If you’re looking to buy a nonstick set but want it to last longer than a traditional nonstick set, this is a great choice. Nonstick cookware sets can be a healthy option when used correctly. The nonstick aspect means you’ll be able to cook with little to no fats and oils.

If you’ve used nonstick cookware in the past and found that the pans warped or weren’t versatile or oven-safe, then the Hard Anodized Titanium set will fix many of your problems.

This is a great set of pots and pans as long as you take the time to take care of them.

  1. Do Not wash them in the dishwasher. (Wash them by hand).
  2. Do Not over heat them. (In other words when preheating, don’t get distracted and let them just sit empty over high heat).
  3. Do Not use metal or abrasive utensils. (Use Wood, Silicone, Plastic).
  4. Do Not place HOT pots/pans/lids immediately in a sink with cold water. (let them naturally cool before washing).

If these common sense steps are followed, They will last you a lifetime! If any of these steps are too difficult for you, stick to cast iron or stainless steel pots and pans. Any product is only as good as how the owner takes care of it!

I love these pans. I’ve had them now for 6 months, use them almost daily, and they look like they just came out of the box. There’s not a scratch or blemish on them. Hard anodized aluminum is a little-known and misunderstood material. The anodizing process turns soft, malleable aluminum into a material that is almost as strong as cast iron, at a fraction of the weight. It’s the perfect material for pots and especially frying pans. (One tip, ignore the gimmicky red dot, just cook as you normally do.) These pans have all the advantages of cast iron without the need to first season them, will never rust, will never require heavy scrubbing, and, apparently, will never scratch or dent. They preheat evenly and retain the heat almost as well as cast iron, but have the advantage of faster response time when the heat is adjusted. They can handle a pretty high heat and put a great sear on a steak, chicken breast, or piece of fresh salmon. And absolutely nothing sticks to them. I know this from experience; I was making a pot of marinara sauce one night and fell asleep in my lounger. Three or four hours later, I woke to find the carbonized remains of two cans of San Marzano tomatoes. I thought “Well there goes that pan.” But after letting the pan cool down, the debris wiped right out with a piece of paper towel. The pan was unscathed; a quick wipe with a soapy sponge and it looked perfect.

I also like that this set includes three different size sauce pans, rather than the usual two in these kind of sets, plus a large covered Dutch Oven. Whether heating a can of soup, cooking a pot of rice, or making a batch of stew, this set has you covered.

I’m a retired professional chef, and you can take my word, these are as good, or better, than any professional quality pots and pans (some costing as much or more than this entire set) I’ve ever used. They are versatile, and will handle any of your cooking needs.

I only have one negative thing to say about my purchase. I paid $10.00 more for this set when I bought them! 🙁
Just kidding! I couldn’t care less about the 10 bucks. They are worth every penny I paid for them. But they are a really great value now! And no, I was not paid or compensated in any way for this review, although I wouldn’t mind if I was. I just know what I like, and like to give credit where credit is due. T-Fal made a great product at a great price, as the Amazon’s Choice designation indicates.

T-fal C561SC Titanium Advanced Nonstick Thermo-Spot Heat Indicator Dishwasher Safe Cookware Set, 12-Piece, Black

  • Set includes 8 inches Fry Pan, 9 inches Fry Pan, 1 qt Saucepan, 2 qt saucepan, 3 qt Deep Sauté, 5 qt Dutch Oven, Solid Spoon, Slotted...
  • Heavy gauge and extra durable forged construction
  • Titanium advanced nonstick interior; Unique Thermo Spot heat indicator

My wife kept buying fancy “as seen on TV” type pans that SUCKED. How can you have a frying pan where you cannot put OIL on? And that you cannot scrub too hard, or use this or that soap, blah blah blah. They would not last a year and she blamed me (me, a guy who went to Two culinary art schools and is a Le Cordon Bleu graduate).

So one day I had enough of seeing my scrambled eggs becoming a sorry mess and then the nightmarish cleaning. So… After searching and researching for a while, I decided to buy this set of pots and pans. I had one or two T-Fal products at home that are still going strong after so many years so that sealed the deal.

They are remarkably good. Not only they are pretty, sexy almost, but they are easy, EASY to clean. I do take care of my investment, though. I clean them well, I seasoned them properly, and I even dry them by hand after using. And I don’t let my kids use them, because they overcook everything on high, and are not beyond cleaning them with a Brillo. I have to be that way, because I love these pans.

I could probably get away with scrambling eggs “dry“ on this but honestly why would you. So I don’t go for that gimmick. I spray my pan with Pam or I use butter or bacon fat and the eggs just float with ease.

My favorite features are the colors, the material of the handles which feel pleasant to grasp, and the unique feature of the heat ring. It’s like magic! There’s a logo in the middle of the pan with some dots (squares?) that disappear when the pan gets hot. So, no more guessing! No more sprinkling water to see if it’s hot, no more premature drops of food on a pan that’s not ready yet. It’s also helpful to tell you if a pan is too hot to clean or store, no more touching with your fingers to check.

With zero food ruined to date, I can highly recommend these pots and pans set without reserve.

3. T-Fal Ceramic Set

The bulk of the pan’s body is made from heavy-gauge aluminum, making it strong and lightweight. The grey ceramic interior is recyclable, PTFE-, PFOA-, and Cadmium free, and it has nonstick properties.

The handles are riveted to the body for long-lasting durability, and they are ergonomic for comfort while also being heat resistant. The lid is made of tempered glass with an aluminum-lined vent hole and a heat-resistant handle.

Ceramic Design

It’s made with a high gloss exterior and a grey ceramic interior. All handles are black and heat resistant with a hole on the end, so you have the option of hanging the cookware from a hook for storage.

The overall design is that of classic cookware that you see everywhere. With a complete set, you should be able to perform nearly any cooking task.

Ceramic Performance

The aluminum build means that heat transfers quickly, so you don’t need to wait a long time for the pan to heat up. The ceramic interior means that it can withstand higher heat, up to 570 degrees, so there’s no worry about releasing harmful chemicals into your food. It’s excellent for searing chicken, beef, and seafood, and since it’s oven safe up to 350 degrees, you can put it in the oven to finish the cooking process when necessary. Just be sure to use an oven mitt when pulling it out of the oven. The heat-resistant handle will most definitely be hot after spending any time in the oven.

It says that it has nonstick properties, so don’t expect it to be as nonstick as the Titanium or Signature lines, but with the ability to sustain high heat, it’s a great healthier option.

The only heat source it’s not compatible with an induction burner. It’s dishwasher safe and reported to be very easy to clean.

When To Choose A Ceramic T-Fal Set

Ceramic sets are a great choice when looking for cookware with nonstick capabilities, but you’re concerned about the chemicals that come off of traditional nonstick cookware. Ceramic is also non-reactive, and there are no added chemicals so that nothing will contaminate your food.

The ceramic cooking surface means that you can use high heat to get a great sear on your favorite meats. Since food primarily doesn’t stick, you won’t need to use lots of fats and oils when cooking, giving you a healthier meal and a higher nutritional content than boiling or steaming.

I have cooked quite a few meals in them so far, and they are truly a dream. They are non stick, not overly heavy, and definitely great quality. I followed all the helpful tips by other reviewers, and have taught my family how to season the pans so we’re doing well with them. One pan in particular gets a lot of use, and if other family members don’t pitch in to season it, we do get some insanely hard to remove residue. But that has only happened once with a brief family retraining. My food caramelizes much better, and I’ve been trying recipes I wouldn’t have dared before (melting cheese). I think these pans have honestly made me a better cook! The pans clean up so easily, my notoriously lazy family doesn’t even mind wiping them down in the sink! 😉

4. T-Fal Nonstick Set

The cookware is made from heavy gauge aluminum. The interior nonstick surface is recyclable and PFOA, cadmium, and lead-free, called PTFE (polytetrfluorethylene). The handles are made of silicone, are heat resistant, and are secured to the pan’s body with rivets. The lids are made of tempered glass with silicone handles.

Design

The design is like your typical cookware. The handles have a hole on the end for the option of hanging storage. The lids have an aluminum-lined vent to relieve pressure, and the clear lids allow you to keep an eye on your food while it cooks. Each piece has the Thermo Spot heat indicator to let you know when the cookware is hot enough for use. The cookware surface is textured in appearance but smooth to touch.

Performance

These nonstick pans work great until they don’t, but no nonstick cookware set will last forever. Many people report that the Thermo Spot heat indicator doesn’t work, but you’ll be able to tell when the pan is ready with practice.

The silicone handles are comfortable to hold and are oven safe up to 350 degrees; just be sure to use an oven mitt when pulling it out of the oven as they will be hot.

The nonstick surface helps with easy cleanups, and it’s dishwasher safe.

The aluminum body makes for quick heat transfers, so it doesn’t take long for the body to heat up, keep an eye on your cookware during this process because too high of heat can have a negative outcome. While it is PFOA, lead, and cadmium-free, it’s never a good idea to use these nonstick pans on high heat. It’s safe to use on all cooking surfaces except induction burners.

When To Choose A Nonstick T-Fal Set

These sets of cookware make fantastic start-up sets. If you are moving out for the first time, these sets will hit almost all your needs. They will also make an excellent gift for young newlyweds, graduates, or anyone who’s starting on their own. Their affordable price makes this suggestion even more attractive.

This line of cookware is fantastic for people who have never tried nonstick before but want to experience its use. Perhaps you’ve grown tired of your eggs always sticking to your pans, but you don’t want to make a sizeable financial commitment to a pricier brand. These sets are a great starting point to see whether or not you’ll enjoy their benefits.

My wife and I love to cook and are fairly rough on cookware. Our last set of pots and pans looked like they had barely made it out of the Battle of the Bulge. So, we started looking for something that would be tough, look good, have non-stick surfaces and last a long time. After viewing some ridiculously priced sets at places like Williams and Sonoma (anyone need a $2500 cookware set?), we decided to start researching at Amazon. This set had great reviews and the price for the Expert set was a reasonable $65. We decided to order it and give it a shot, and if anything went wrong or the set failed prematurely, we knew we had Amazon’s warranty at our back.

The set came three days later with no problems and we immediately put it to use. All the cookware items appear to be of high quality and the teflon non-stick coatings seem to be high quality. If you order the Expert set, the cookware also contains a red thermo-spot temperature indicator in the middle of each item to let you know when the pot or pan has been properly pre-heated, which is a great visual aid. I also like that the set is made of high quality aluminum as it will heat up faster and more evenly than stainless steel sets. I will go into more detail at a later date, but so far, with about a year on this cookware set, it is holding up excellently. No problems with the teflon coatings and no problems with wear or tear. This set can also be used in the dishwasher and so far, the finish on these items is still excellent. They are easy to use and easy to clean and the set still looks brand new. What more can we ask for? This cookware set easily beats other sets costing ten or twenty times as much money. Highly recommend and five stars!

I have had this set for about two weeks and I am very pleased with them. I look like a tv commercial when I make fried or scrambled eggs. I just till the frypan twards the plate and they slide out of the pan onto the plate! Everything I have cooked is just like the eggs. No sticking. I’m new to cooking in aluminum pots. The broshure tells you the heat need not be near as high as your used to and they mean it!! Things cook faster with considerably less heat. The only thing I could suggest to improve would be to eliminate the small portion between the metal rim where the clear top meets the metal rim. There’s a small portion that debris ccan get trapped and is a bugger to clean out. Other than that, they are as good as it gets!! I certainly do recommend them. The delivery was on target, packing was extremely professional and the cost is very fair. Hope I helped you.

What Size T-Fal Cookware Set Should You Buy?

Assuming you aren’t just looking for a single pan or two, there are some great sets available. Continue reading to learn when you should buy the 12-piece set versus the 20-piece set.

When to buy a T-Fal 12 piece set

A great time to buy a 12 piece T-Fal cookware set is when you already have a few other cookware pieces in your kitchen. Maybe you have a few stainless steel pieces, but you have a hard time cooking delicate fish or eggs because they tend to stick.

Having a smaller set will give you more cooking options without filling up your cupboards with cookware pieces that you might already own. And even if you do end up with a couple of extra pots and pans, those will be great to use if you go camping or have an RV that needs filling out with more cookware.

When to buy a T-Fal 20 piece set

Buying a 20 piece set generally means that you are starting from the ground up; you don’t own cookware and could use some of the utensils that come with an extensive set.

The 20 piece set will make an excellent gift for people headed off to University, first-time homeowners, young newlyweds, or any person looking to make a fresh start. With a price point that’s around 100 dollars, this makes everyone happy.

Remember that when you buy the 12 or 20 piece set, the lids count as 1 of those pieces. So, 3 pots with lids will count as 6 pieces.

Also, be sure to look closely at what comes with each cookware set. Every set is a little different, so picking the one that most closely meets your needs is important. If you find that you saute and pan-fry more than you boil or steam, look for a set that has more saute pans in multiple sizes.

Alternative Cookware Options If T-Fal Isn’t Right For You

If none of these sets are getting you excited, or they don’t satisfy what you are looking for, check out these other options. Budget, material, and performance all play a part in choosing the correct cookware set for your home. Since it’s something that most of us use every day, it’s important to take the time to learn what best fits our wants and needs.

This is an in-depth guide to the best stainless steel cookware choices available to you, with added stainless steel maintenance and selection information.

This is our guide to the best ceramic cookware sets. It shows the best options available, and it also helps you choose and care for your new ceramic cookware.

All-Clad is known to be some of the best cookware you can buy. If you have a bit more of a budget, we’d highly recommend checking out our review of All-Clad HA1 Cookware.
